Mind maps
This is the first mind map ident design that me and my group created, this one is aimed more at the male target audience. In this ident it shows the elements that we want in our TV channel ident for 'The Grid'. it also shows the possible music ideas that we are considering to include in our ident, and also the level of information we would like to give to the audience in the forms of visual information and verbal information being just under overwhelming. We would also like our age range of 18-30 to be intrigued, which will be for our second ident which will link in with out family of idents. This shows the funny and bubbly persona that we would liek our TV channel to portray to our audience.

ident. Within this mind map it shows that we had planned our ident on using Play-Doh
as our main resource, we would use this to create the images that we
wanted by making them ourselves (using the Play-Doh). This mind map gives the outline of the idea
for what we would want it to look like with the green
screening and the movement of the play-doh. The target audience for this
TV channel is aimed at people aged 18- 30 years, this is shown through
the use of adult television programmes being shown on the green screen.

Successful and Unsuccessful idents
Idents are small advertisements that market a channel. They have opportunities and limitations, these opportunities and limitations help and make and ident successful however they are also responsible for making idents unsuccessful as they limit some idents to explore.
Some of the opportunities that idents have are that they can create a corporate identity and a tone for the channel this is a good opportunity which can make an ident successful as if gives the views and insight into what the channel is about and what it shows. You can also easily display text-based information; this is helpful as you are able to show visually information about the channel onscreen; this allows you to brand your channel. You also have the ability to appeal to your audience through many ways without out restrictions. Finally, by making a successful ident it encourages brand loyalty.
Like many things there are some limitations that must be thought of when designing idents, these are lings like the typography, resolution, colour and aspect-ratio. Typography is the font and size of the writing; you must ensure that the viewers are able to read it. The resolution is the quality of the picture if it is too high of quality then it will take a lot of time to load, so therefore getting the correct files size is important.
‘UK TV GOLD’
You can get many successful and unsuccessful idents one that I have studied was the TV channel ‘Gold’. When studying this channels ident I come across an old ident and a recent ident and in which one was successful and one was not. The newer gold ident is more successful as the newer one is more interesting and entertaining as there was a lot more going on screen: vibrant colours, different exquisite noises and lots of movement this is successful as it is appealing to the eye which attracts a wider audience.
The older ident is really unsuccessful as there are not many good features. The old ident didn't really show any form of identity. The density of information was very minimal, there was not verbal information and the visual information was poor. In the ident the interaction with the viewers was very minimal will little to no interactions with the audience, all these aspects and many more made this ident unsuccessful.
'DAVE’
Another channel in which I have analysed if the idents were successful or not was the TV channel ‘Dave’. Dave’s newest ident is a successful ident. This is because it is interesting and entertaining, this is due to the up beat music in which is played in the ident, and the people running about. The colour red it used in the ident a lot, the colour red is appealing to the eye, which helps to make this a successful ident. The colour red could have been used for the connotations that go with it, the main one that springs to mind when thinking of the connotations of red is love, red may have been used not only because there may be love programmes shown on that channel but instead to show the love the viewer may have for the channel which increases the loyalty the viewer has for the channel.
The older ‘Dave’ ident is called ‘the human cannonball’ this ident was unsuccessful. In the ident there is very limited sound and visual information, this is easy to see as during the ident, the verbal information gave more information on the next programme that was being show rather then showing the identity of the channel. The composition of the ident is unbalanced. This ident will not appeal to many audiences as many audiences would prefer to see an up-beat ident which shows what is going on in the ident and what the channel is likely to show.
‘NatGeo Wild’
The final channel in which I am going to analyse is the channel ‘NatGeo Wild’ the older ident is the least successful. The ident was show in 2009 and was called ‘jungle ident’. The reason for this ident being the least successful is due to the fact that in the ident the animals are fake, this gives the viewers a bad impression of the programme as they may fell that the information and programmes the channel are going to show may be fake also. The verbal information to visual information ratio is very limited however there is more visual information, as there is no verbal information throughout the whole ident. The visual information is limited because it doesn’t explain much about the channel as it only shows 3 animals separately moving through the jungle, this doesn’t give the viewer much of an insight to the types of programmes that the channel shows. The composition of the ident is unbalanced.
The newer ‘NatGeo Wild’ ident isn’t massively successful but in comparison to the first one it is more successful. The new ident is called ‘The Land Animals’ ident this is more successful as the wild is in the middle this shows that you will always be in the middle of all the action is you watch this programme. The video inside and behind the writing shows that if you watch this channel you will see what not many people get to see, this symbols that there is a lot more to the wild than what a lot of people think. There is a lot of visual information in this ident, as you see animals in their natural habitat, which you do not see everyday. I feel that the composition of this ident is balanced, as there isn’t too many things going on at one time.

I then found a house and added this into my logo design

My 3 logo designs 'MIXX', 'LOCK' and 'PULSE'
The first thing i did was i used the ellipse tool to make a black circle.
Secondly, i then used the text tool to write 'MIXX', i then used change the font type,size and colour.
In this step i used the custom shape tool to then make a circular shape and made the shape a baby blue colour.
In this screen-capture i then copied the last circular shape but changed the colour to purple and decreased the size.
I then repeated the last step several times, each time changing the size and colour.
Finally, i then linked all the circular shaped layers together. Enlarged them and placed them over the black circle and changed the opacity.
I then edited the text using the pallet tool. finally, i then put the 'MIXX' text layer over all of the other layers.

All i did for the other logos was edited the text and changed the name of the logo. I repeated this for the 'PULSE' ident also.

After getting feedback from some of my audience, i had a lot of people say to me to improve the logos, i should make each logo slightly unique to make the logo relate specifically to each radio station.
To improve my 'MIXX' logo i decided to put in a bottle of 'pop', this shows the kind of music which will played on the station as also gives it a young trendy look.

What roles are we each responsible for?
I (Nathan West) will be in charge of taking the pictures.
Todd Cooper will be in charge of the movement within the ident.

Explain why each person is good for that role?
I feel that Todd will be a good director as he is more creative
then myself therefore he will be able to make the ident more appealing.
I will be in charge of the camera as I feel I can make the
shot look effective by the angle I will be taking them at.
I think by both of us being in charge of the lighting, sound
and editing we will be able to balance out the work load so we have an equal
amount to do. By working together we will also be able to have and equal say in
how the ident will be.

analysing th design features in an itv2 ident
the itv2 office ident is and example of all the ident design features at work. it has a relativly high about of density information. For example, it is verbally high in information as throughout the ident there is a woman talking about the up coming programme. It is also visually high in information as you can see what the ident is trying to portray what the channel is about for example the fact the two men are playing balloon tennis can show that the channel shows some sport, additionally, the fact that a woman walks past the screen as it looks to be a very expensive and fashionable dress could show that this channel also contains alot of reality tv programmes.
Another design feature seen in this ident is composition, the compostition of this ident is balanced. you can see this because at the beginning you have a shot of a man sitting at a computer then as the ident continues the shot widens. the logo of the channel is on the left and the men playing balloon tennis are carrying on this help to promote the channel as it shows that the channel has funn/comedy shows on but it also has other forms of tv shows.
The ident has another design feature which is that ther space and time is effective. The ident is set in the 'real world' in an office, this is effective as it relates to alot of people that work in an office environment, office jobs are seen as boring, however it seems to be the ident is showing that if you watch itv2 anything you are doing that is boring will be made more fun by watching itv2. the space at the front of the screen seems quite full on as the background seems quite open.
Tempo is also at work in this ident, this is visable as there are two contrasting tempos. the movement on the screen seems very fast paced this is effective as it gives the view/audeince a sense of what kind of pace the programmes are - whether they are slow soaps or fast paced game shows. in contrast, the music is very slow paced this contrast is effective as the viewer/audience is able to se ethat although they have faced paced programmes they also have programmes on at which you can unwind to and that are less up beat this is effective as it will appeal to a wider audience.
in this particular ident the entertainment vs information ratio is more in favour towards entertainment. this gives the viewers/audience more of an insight of what the channel is baout, it shows that the channel is entertaining which may appeal to a wider/younger audience. the fact that there is low information also shows that the channel is not to serious and it is there to entertain their viewers.
The final design feature that this ident uses is the interaction with the viewers. the interaction with the viewers is quite minimal, however, the interaction of the woman talking to the viewers isn't formal however, it isn't informal, the way the woman speaks to the audience is conversational. This gives off the image that the channel isn't too formal and serious but it is entertaining and engaging.

analysing an ident (BBC 1)
•Idenitfy the identity of a channel.
The identity of BBC 1 is to mainly aimed towards the older generations and usually presents the news in england and the entire world.
•Explain how the channel's idenity is shown in an ident. the channels identity is shown in this ident as it presents hippos in a swimming in a circle this shows the identity of the channel as the circle represents the world and the world being in a shape of a circle.
•Analyse the ident by expalning its meaning. The meaning behind the ident is that the hippos swimming in a circle represent the world. similarly, the fact that there are hippos also show the fact that the channel also consists of nature programmes. additionally, there is a baby hippo this could show that because there is a baby hippo their target audience can at somepoing be for a younger type of audience, the baby hippo joins later on when the circle is complete this could show that after the news about the world is shown,childrens programmes will then start to be shown. also before the circles you see there are two hippos that look as if they are in love, this could show the identity of the channel as it is aimed at and older audience and that it shows love programmes, whether that be a soap opera or a rality tv show.
